Holistic, Christian counseling & wellness for women & teen girls in Cary and throughout NC

Do you feel defeated by your emotions?

The day is completely overwhelming. This may have stemmed from a recent death, relationship loss, hormonal shifts, changes in the weather, diagnosis, divorce, or becoming a parent (postpartum) or empty nester.

You don’t know what you like, want, or value anymore. The beauty of your life is diminished by a lack of pleasure in any of it. Despite the time and energy you spend caring for everyone, you still feel unseen and unheard-hidden behind the needs of everyone else. And then you feel guilty for not enjoying your family, friends, job, or activities that used to give you pleasure. The loneliness is excruciating.

No matter how hard you try, you never feel good enough. This sense of worthlessness overarches your life, leaving you hopeless, defeated, and exhausted. You may “know” all the things you should do, but you can’t get yourself to do them.

Just getting out of bed seems hard. You may struggle with sleep issues-whether it’s not being able to get a good night’s sleep or sleeping too much. It leaves you depleted and exhausted.

You’re tired of feeling caught in this cycle:

  • Sadness, emptiness & hopelessness

  • Diminished interest in activities

  • Changes in appetite

  • Trouble sleeping or sleeping too much

  • Feelings of worthlessness or inappropriate guilt

  • Diminished ability to think or concentrate

  • Indecisiveness

  • Thoughts of death

THINGS CAN BE DIFFERENT THAN THEY ARE TODAY.

What would life look like without crippling depression?

Counseling for depression can bring freedom from feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and worthlessness. The goal is to reduce the frequency, duration, and intensity so that depression no longer defeats you.

Increased awareness of thoughts and feelings will allow you to realize they don't necessarily reflect reality. You will be able to examine thoughts and feelings, and begin to align them with truth. As you begin telling yourself the truth, the lies you have always listen to you will become quieter. And those untruthful thoughts and feelings will no longer be your master.

As you grow to understand the connection between exercise and mood, you'll begin moving your body to burn stress hormones and release feel good hormones. You will identify the food and drinks that affect your mood. Sleep habits will change so that you fall asleep and sleep through the night, feeling more rested in the morning. Your nervous system will become more balanced as you practice breath and grounding work.

Feelings of worthlessness will no longer cripple of your social life. Rather than avoiding loved ones, you will grow in your desire to develop and maintain healthy and satisfying relationships. Engagement in the community will bring a sense of purpose and meaning.

Shame and guilt will quiet down and self compassion will get louder. A new independent identity will emerge as you regain your sense of what you like, value, and desire. If desired, you will learn to lean into your faith, prayer, and scripture for strength, identity, value, and worth.

Counseling for depression can bring freedom from sadness, hopelessness, and guilt.

A holistic approach to depression therapy uses mental, physical, social, and spiritual (upon request) practices to both prevent symptoms and cope with them when they arise.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is particularly helpful with depression. MBCT will help you learn to understand the relationship between thoughts, feelings, body sensations, and actions. This increased awareness will take you off autopilot and allow you to live with intention instead. It will help you begin to see your thoughts and feelings simply as thoughts and feelings-not as absolute truth. Then you don’t have to act on them.

We’ll work together to identify the false beliefs you have about yourself, others, and the world. We’ll help you make connections between these false beliefs and their origins-possibly in trauma, your childhood, or marriage. Then we can align your thoughts with truth and live in accordance with that truth. Rather than beating yourself up, you’ll develop kindness and compassion toward yourself.

New ways to prevent depression and burnout will begin-daily practices such as mindfulness, journaling, movement, sound nutrition, social connectivity, and spiritual practices. These practices can be life-changing, particularly for women who suffer from postpartum depression. When depression comes, you will gain the skills to cope, such as recognizing activating events, breathing practices, changing conditioned patterns of the mind, aromatherapy, and other grounding techniques. If desired, you’ll have faith-based coping tools, such as scriptures, affirmations, and prayer.

Each session will leave you with new and tangible skills to help you feel empowered to cope with depression and burnout.
